Missouri’s Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday

During a seven-day period starting on April 19 and ending April 25, 2018, sales of qualifying Energy Star certified new appliances, up to $1,500 per appliance, will be exempt from Missouri state sales tax.

Provided that they are Energy Star certified, appliances including but not limited to water heaters, dishwashers, air conditioners, furnaces, heat pumps, and freezers are exempt from Missouri state sales tax during the Show Me Green Sales Tax Holiday period.

The statute allows cities, counties and special tax districts to choose whether they will participate in the Show Me Green Sales Tax Holiday. A map of participating special districts, counties, and municipalities can be found here.

However, you do not need to be a Missouri resident to purchase qualifying items tax-exempt during the sales tax holiday. Items bought over the internet with a complete transaction qualify for the holiday exemption if it is purchased from a participating location.

Important to note — if a customer purchases an eligible item during a sales tax holiday, but later exchanges the item for another eligible item of equal or less value, no tax is due even if the exchange is made after the sales tax holiday.
