Overseas and Overbudget: European City Taxes
Even though you likely budgeted for your next overseas vacation, you could still be in for a shock if your hotel charges a city tax.

City taxes are common all over the world; new research shows that these taxes can add hundreds of dollars to hotel guests' final tabs.
The European Tourism Association (ETOA) gathered data on 125 European destinations that charge a tourist tax. Cities such as Rotterdam (6.5%), Berlin (5%), Vienna (3.2%) and Budapest (4%) levy a percentage charge on the room rate. Other destinations levy taxes on a per person, per night basis.
