Idaho to Remove Sales Tax Permanently on Installed Aircraft Parts

Idaho's House Bill No. 361 removes the sunset provision sales tax exemption for aircraft parts installed on out-of-state aircraft. The tax exemption would have expired on June 30, 2016 without this bill.

Austin Shontz, Vice President and General Manager of Western Aircraft said “The sales tax exemption has helped Western Aircraft grow its business and make significant capital investments. We feel this is a big win for the state of Idaho both in terms of growing jobs and building the aviation industry for the future.”

According to an article, "Western Aircraft’s primary competitors currently operate in states that do not tax aircraft parts installed on aircraft during maintenance. The sales tax exemption bill was originally passed in 2012, but contained a sunset provision (a measure within a statute, regulation or other law that provides that the law shall cease to have effect after a specific date, unless further legislative action is taken to extend the law) that would have allowed the exemption to expire in June 2016 without action by the legislature."

Legislation is being proposed and considered that will change tax laws across the country and online. Most SMBs have limited tax expertise in-house.
