Alabama Holds Annual Sales Tax Holiday 2020
Alabama 2020 Sales Tax Holiday
Alabama will hold its 15th annual sales tax holiday July 17-19, 2020, giving shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain school supplies, computers and clothing free of state sales tax.
During this three-day tax holiday, the following are tax-exempt:
- Clothing, including but not limited to jackets, school uniforms, socks and sneakers with a sales price of $100 or less per item;
- Computers, computer software and school computer supplies, including but not limited to computer printers, printer paper and printer ink with a sales price of $750 or less per single purchase;
- School supplies with a non-commercial purchase sales price of $50 or less per item, including but not limited to binders, highlighters, notebooks, book bags and writing tablets; and
- Books with an ISBN number for noncommercial purchase with a sales price of $30 or less per book.
These do not include magazines, newspapers, periodicals or any other document printed or offered for sales in a non-bound form.
It is important to note that not all counties and municipalities in Alabama are participating in this sales tax exemption. Please refer to the Alabama Department of Revenue participating localities or the Alabama Department of Revenue quick reference sheet of exempt items.
