Vertex Launches Innovative Co-Op Program with Drexel University’s Charles D. Close School of Entrepreneurship

King of Prussia, PA

Drexel University’s Charles D. Close School of Entrepreneurship and Vertex, Inc., a leading global provider of tax technology and services, have partnered to provide Drexel students with an experiential learning opportunity in an industry-leading corporation. The Vertex Innovation Fellows Program, a new corporate entrepreneurship cooperative (co-op), allows students to work independently at Vertex Innovation Labs, a community of co-innovation focused on the tax, regulatory and technology industries.

Students can apply to the program by completing a set of questions focused around key obstacles and challenges faced by customers of Vertex. Accepted students will begin their co-op experience by running an independent project team within Vertex. The co-op is available during fall/winter and spring/summer cycles to entrepreneurial students at Drexel University.

“We are proud to partner with Vertex on this truly innovative program,” said Damian Salas, Assistant Dean of Entrepreneurship Programs and Assistant Teaching Professor at the Close School. “Our partnership creates value for Vertex clients and partners, as well as the entire undergraduate student body of the Charles D. Close School here at Drexel.”

At the culmination of the co-op, students will present their prototype to an Incubation Board consisting of Vertex senior management. Following the final presentation, the Incubation Board will select certain projects to fund and move forward including an opportunity for associated students to apply for employment at Vertex.

“Vertex is excited to engage diverse, empowered teams from Drexel that will combine innovative ideas with technologies to create new scalable solutions,” said Greg Wilrich, Director of Enterprise Incubation at Vertex. “This program is designed to empower teams to move rapidly, work smarter, and activate entrepreneurial processes to fundamentally change how we explore new ways to solve our customers’ problems.”

“At the core of the partnership is Drexel's experiential learning,” said Salas. “We double-down by combining a unique entrepreneurship experience in leading proof-of-concept projects, with a path that could ultimately lead to a career as a corporate entrepreneur. This program supports Vertex's position as an industry leader in talent, culture and cutting-edge tax solutions.”
