Vertex Session
Managing Transparency Risk: Owning Your Data, Controlling Your World
March 24, 2021 | 11:30 am – 12:45 pm
Historically, the concept of “transparency” with government visibility was linked to taxpayer activities and transactions. More recently, mechanisms for increasing transparency have introduced tensions between taxpayers and their advisors. The near future presents the possibility of greater tensions, as lines of sight into historically confidential taxpayer information could be offered to the public. This session will discuss recent developments in taxpayer transparency and data management, including potential conflicts between taxpayers and governments, advisors, and external stakeholders resulting from data transparency.
Learning Objectives
After this session, participants will be able to:
- Identify recent data-related developments regarding government-related tax transparency issues;
- Understand potential conflicts between taxpayers and their advisors arising from new disclosure requirements
- Assess the fallout arising from potential public disclosure of confidential tax information with respect to external stakeholders
