Vertex Responds to SSLv3 "POODLE" Vulnerability

  • November 06, 2014

Berwyn, PA

Vertex Inc., today announced that starting on November 14, 2014, it will disable Secure Sockets Layer version 3.0 (SSLv3) in response to a vulnerability tagged POODLE (Padding Oracle On Downgraded Legacy Encryption). As such, starting on November 14, 2014, if you utilize SSLv3 for connectivity, you will not be able to access any Vertex hosted solution.

Vertex recommends that all clients, on-premise or otherwise, work with their Information Technology department to determine if SSLv3 is still being used and reference the resources below for additional guidance to help determine next steps. Clients using SSLv3 to access these solutions will need to address this situation as soon as possible or risk losing connectivity to their Vertex application.

The POODLE vulnerability is present in the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) 3.0 cryptography protocol (SSLv3), and could be exploited to intercept data that is intended to be encrypted between computers and servers. If you believe that this policy will negatively impact your use of Vertex hosted solutions, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can discuss your options and help to support you through this process.
