Maryland Holds a Sales Tax Holiday for Energy and Water-Efficient Products
A sales tax holiday in Maryland goes into effect February 16-18, 2019. During this time, consumers will get a break from the state's 6 percent sales tax on qualifying Energy Star products.
During Shop Maryland Energy weekend, the following Energy Star products are sales tax exempt:
- Air conditioners
- Clothes washers and dryers
- Furnaces
- Heat pumps
- Boilers
- Solar water heaters (tax-exempt at all times now)
- Standard size refrigerators
- Dehumidifiers
- Programmable thermostats
- Compact fluorescent light bulbs
Only the items listed above that have been designated as meeting or exceeding the applicable Energy Star efficiency requirements exempt during the Shop Maryland Energy weekend. Appliances and equipment not list above do not qualify for exemption even though they may also carry the Energy Star label.
