Whether it’s going to the gym or taking a multivitamin, self-care has encompassed the current trend of “treat yourself” with more people hopping on the bandwagon. According to Bloomberg BNA’s SALT Talk Blog, some states are encouraging these behaviors with tax exemptions on certain goods and services related to self-care.
Although physical activity is commonly identified as the core tenant of self-care, states differ on the taxation of exercise or physical fitness services, with some allowing for exemptions to promote public health. Other forms of care such as massage services, grooming and hygiene products are either nontaxable or exempt in many states.
