Sales, Use and International Tax Activity Update - July 2009
Colorado - Smoke Them If You Got Them, and Pay Sales Tax
On July 1, 2009 sales of Cigarettes are now taxable for state sales tax. Local exemptions are not affected and remain. Changes have been made to the State sales tax return form DR 0100 so that Retailers can accurately report these newly taxable sales beginning with their July monthly, and third quarter returns. The taxable status for Cigarettes is scheduled to remain in affect until July 1, 2011.
Background
This change comes from the passage of Colorado House Bill 09-1342, which was signed by the Governor on 6/1/2009.
The House bill can be viewed at the Colorado General Assembly website.
