Sales Tax State Activity Update - November 2004
In Florida Non-Remittance Leads To Arrest
Revenue Department agents in Florida charged a restaurant owner with stealing sales tax.
The Sarasota County restaurant owner collected over $95,000 in sales tax during the period of April 2002 through June 2003, and August 2003 through September 2003.
Executive Director of the Florida Department of Revenue, Jim Zingale considers the act a theft of competitive advantage over honest taxpaying businesspeople. He assures honest taxpayers that the department will not tolerate such activities.
Anyone with information regarding tax theft should call the Departments investigations office in Fort Myers.
