Tax Amnesty Programs
Mississippi
House Bill 1279 signed into law authorizes the State Tax Commission to implement a tax amnesty program beginning September 01, 2004, to December 31, 2004. The tax amnesty program will apply to all tax types collected by the Tax Commission. The last tax amnesty program in the State was in 1986 and the Tax Commission collected over a million dollars in tax revenue. (House Bill 1279, Approved May 9, 2004.) 08/04
West Virginia
Senate Bill 148 signed by the Governor on April 1, 2004, enacts a 60-day tax amnesty program beginning September 1, 2004. Taxpayers seeking amnesty are allowed to waive 50% of the interest accrued, plus all penalties are wavied. The Commissioner is required to report certain information back to the Governor after conclusion of the program.
