Vertex Honored with Highest Award for Outstanding Support of National Guard and Reserve
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) bestows highest honor for support of employees’ service
Berwyn, PA – April 30, 2010 – Vertex Inc., the leading provider of corporate enterprise tax solutions, was presented with the Seven Seals award on Friday in a ceremony on the company’s Berwyn campus. The Seven Seals award is given by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a U.S. Department of Defense Organization, for outstanding leadership in supporting the men and women who serve in the National Guard and Reserve units.
Members of the Guard and Reserve nominate companies based upon support for service men and women that goes above and beyond. Vertex was nominated for this honor by Garry Hahn, a Major in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and Vertex employee for nearly 15 years.
“I truly appreciate the support that I received during my various deployments including my most recent tour to Iraq,” stated Major Hahn. “The care packages that my Vertex family sent to me during my time away from the office provided a sound reminder of those back home who wished us well and a safe return from our tour of duty.”
Major Hahn has been called to service and deployed during his tenure at Vertex with assignments in Kosovo (2003-2004), New Orleans – post Hurricane Katrina (2005), and most recently returned to Vertex after a 23-month mobilization, which included an 8-month deployment to Iraq as a Major in the 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 28th Infantry Division.
During the ceremony Major General (ret.) Wesley Craig, Pennsylvania Army National Guard, presented the Seven Seals Award to Jeff Westphal, Vertex President and CEO. Additionally, Garry presented Vertex with a flag that flew over his base in Taji, Iraq as a symbol of his appreciation for the company’s support during his service in the Army National Guard. The flag was raised by soldiers from the 28th Infantry Division during the award ceremony and will fly over the Vertex campus throughout the following week.

It is important to support those who are called to duty and Vertex is proud to ensure that the service men and women at Vertex have a position in which to return when their deployment comes to an end,” said Westphal. "I have a deep respect for Garry and his dedication in service to our country, and also recognize him as one of our most valued employees at Vertex.”
