    Sales, Use and International Tax Activity Update - July 2010

    U.S. Swept by Torrential Tax Holidays for Back to School - Illinois

    From August 6 through August 15, the state 6.25% sales and use tax rate will be reduced to 1.25% for qualifying items. General categories include specified clothing items that each have a retail selling price of less than $100 and school supplies generally used by a student in a course of study. Qualifying school supplies purchased for use by persons who are not students are not eligible for the reduced rate.

    There are provisions governing related transactions, including bundled sales, coupons and discounts, splitting of items normally sold together, rain checks, exchanges, delivery charges, order date and back orders, and returns.
