Sales Tax State Activity Update - September 2007
Amnesty in Iowa
Iowa is offering a tax amnesty program September 4 through October 31, 2007. This is the first time in over 20 years that Iowa is offering an amnesty program for delinquent tax payers and giving them an opportunity to have their interest and penalties reduced by up to 50%.
In order to participate in this tax amnesty program, taxpayers must meet at least one of the following requirements:
- Did not file a required return;
- Misreported, understated or omitted any tax liability on a previously-filed return;
- Erroneously claimed credits or deductions; or
- Have a current accounts receivable liability.
The following list of taxes and fees are cover by this tax amnesty program:
- Individual income tax
- Corporation income tax
- Withholding tax
- Fiduciary income tax
- Franchise tax
- Sales and use tax
- Local option sales taxes (regular local option and school local option)
- Hotel and motel tax
- Automobile rental tax
- Inheritance tax
- Motor fuel and special fuel taxes
- Environmental protection charge (EPC)
- Cigarette and tobacco taxes
- Motor vehicle lease tax
- Drug stamp tax
